Bonfire Dental offers both composite and porcelain veneers to help quickly transform both the shape and colour of your teeth.

Are you looking for a way to improve the colour and shape of your teeth? Want a solution that will last longer than over-the-counter teeth whitening? Veneers may be the solution you have been looking for.

What are dental veneers?

Dental veneers are wafer-thin shells used to cover the front surface of teeth and improve the overall appearance of your smile. By placing the thin layer of veneer over your original teeth, we can match the colour of the material to the other teeth in your smile zone (the six upper and lower teeth visible when you smile), as well as improve the shape of the individual tooth. Veneers are often used as a more long-term solution to teeth whitening treatments.

Our Bonfire Dental practice in Jindalee offers two types of high-quality veneers: composite and porcelain veneers.

Composite veneers

Composite resin veneers are thin, tooth coloured material that is coated onto the surface of the tooth. This treatment is often referred to as composite bonding, which is simply a composite veneer that is only partially applied to a tooth, for example in the instance of covering a chip or a crack. The advantage of composite veneers is that the overall treatment process is much quicker, you retain your tooth structure, and they can be done at the fraction of the cost of porcelain veneers.

There are two types of composite veneers. Direct composite veneers and indirect composite veneers.

What are dental veneers made of?

Direct composite

These veneers can be applied in one appointment. The composite material is placed directly onto your teeth. Once it’s placed, a blue light is used to harden the veneer setting it in place.

Indirect composite

Indirect composite veneers take two appointments. The first appointment is when an impression of your teeth is taken and sent to the lab. When the impressions are ready, you’ll come back for your second appointment and have the veneers bonded to your teeth.

Do you remove much tooth when placing veneers?

Porcelain veneers

Porcelain veneers are a thin shell of porcelain bonded to the front of your teeth. They are colour-matched to your natural teeth and take two appointments to place. The biggest advantages of porcelain veneers are that the treatment allows for multiple issues to be treated at once, and they are far more durable than other veneer materials. These veneers are more durable and longer-lasting than composite veneers.

The treatment process takes two appointments.

The first appointment involves taking impressions of your teeth and preparing the teeth for porcelain veneers. Once the teeth are prepared, temporary veneers are placed until you have your second appointment.

The second appointment is where your temporary veneers are removed and replaced with the porcelain veneers from the lab. Before these veneers are placed, your Bonfire Dental dentist will ensure they fit well and look good before bonding them to your teeth.

Porcelain veneers can last up to 8 years, but this does depend on how well you look after your oral health.

Who is a candidate for dental veneers?

Before we are able to determine if you are an ideal candidate for dental veneers, we will give your mouth and teeth a thorough assessment. This initial consultation will allow us to see if you require any other treatments before receiving veneers – e.g. damaged, crooked or missing teeth – as well as assess how best to apply veneers to achieve the smile you desire.

It’s important that people looking to have veneers applied have good overall oral health. This is because veneers are a purely cosmetic treatment and any underlying health issues may compromise your teeth and subsequently your veneers. In the case of porcelain veneers, you must also have sufficient tooth enamel left after a small layer has been removed to make space for the veneer.
