Do you find you are regularly getting headaches? Your symptoms could be fixed with treatment and advice from a professional.

Do you suffer from headaches or constant jaw pain? Are you regularly feeling dizzy or have sensitive teeth? These are all symptoms of something that could potentially be a larger problem. You could be experiencing Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD). At Bonfire Dental, we are able to diagnose dental issues and provide a treatment to suit your needs and budget.

What is TMD and TMJ Disorder?

TMD stands for Temporomandibular Joint Disorder, which affects the Temporomandibular joint otherwise known as TMJ.  The TMJ is located in front of your ear, which is often the reason you are feeling tension in your head, neck and shoulders.

TMD is a dental condition caused by the Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) not functioning properly. Patients who are regularly suffering from headaches, back, neck or shoulder pain can be diagnosed with TMD.

TMD Symptoms

As each individual circumstance differs, symptoms may vary and can be challenging to diagnose. At Bonfire Dental, we are able to treat and correctly diagnose our patients to treat the source of pain that is of a dental cause.

Patients generally experience one or more of the following symptoms;

  • Headaches or migraines
  • Click in the jaw followed by pain
  • Sensitive and/or sore teeth
  • Facial, back, neck and shoulder pain
  • Ringing in the ears and dizziness.

What causes TMD?

Generally, patients who are diagnosed with TMD have missing teeth, they grind their teeth, have incorrectly shaped dental fillings, crowns or bridges or misaligned jaw and teeth resulting in overbites, under bites or cross bites. At Bonfire Dental, we will be able to assess the severity of your condition and tailor a treatment plan to suit your individual concern.

What is the treatment process?

Treating TMD is different for each patient. At Bonfire Dental, we have the facilities and experience to create the perfect treatment plan after diagnosis. Generally, mouthguards, splints and prosthodontics are used as an effective treatment. These treatments can successfully realign the jaw into its correct position minimising your pain.
